Privacy policy
This privacy policy describes how SoFly (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our flight tracking application and related services.
1. Location data — access, collection, and use
We access and collect location data when you use our app to record or track flights. This is essential to provide the core flight tracking and replay features.
What we access and collect:
- Precise location (GPS) — Your device’s geographic position (latitude, longitude), and altitude, while you record a flight. The app may access location in the foreground and, if you enable it, in the background so that your track continues to record during a flight.
- Location over time — A series of position points (location + timestamp) that form your flight path. This may include continuous or periodic location updates during a recording session.
When we access and collect it:
- When you start and run a flight recording in the app (we access your device’s location sensors to build the track).
- When you upload or sync a flight from your device to our servers (we receive and store the location-based track data you choose to upload).
How we use location data:
- To record and display your flight path (e.g. on a map) during and after a flight.
- To store your flight tracks on our servers so you can view, replay, and manage them in the app and on the web.
- To provide flight statistics (e.g. distance, altitude, duration) that are derived from your location and track data.
- We use location only for these flight-tracking purposes. We do not use your location for advertising, and we do not share your location with third parties for their marketing or tracking.
You can stop location collection by stopping the flight recording and by revoking location permission for the app in your device settings. If you do not grant location access, flight recording and track-based features will not work.
2. Other information we collect
Account information. When you register or sign in (including via third-party sign-in), we may collect and store:
- Name and email address
- Profile photo (avatar) if you choose to provide one
- Authentication-related data (e.g. hashed password, or OAuth provider identifiers used only for sign-in)
Flight and track data. In addition to location (above), we store flight-related data you provide or that we derive from your recordings, including:
- Flight metadata (e.g. name, start/end time, duration, distance, max altitude)
- Track data: position over time (latitude, longitude, altitude), timestamps, and optionally g-force or similar sensor data that you upload from your device
Technical and usage data. Our servers may automatically log standard technical data (e.g. IP address, request URLs, and error logs) to operate and secure the service. We do not use this to track you across other sites or apps for advertising.
3. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the flight tracking and replay features
- Manage your account and authenticate you
- Store and serve your flight and track data only to you (or to others only where you explicitly share it)
- Comply with law and protect the security of our systems and users
4. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on our servers (and, where applicable, on infrastructure used by our hosting or service providers). We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit and at rest. Passwords are hashed; we do not store plain-text passwords.
5. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only:
- With service providers that help us run the app (e.g. hosting, email) under strict confidentiality
- When required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property
- If we transfer the business (e.g. merger or sale), subject to the same privacy commitments
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use session cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in and to support security and basic site functionality. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. 8. Data retention
We retain your account and flight data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal and flight data in line with our retention and backup procedures, except where we must retain data for legal or safety reasons.
9. Children
Our service is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
